Visvesvaraya Technological University (VTU), which went digital in its examination process last academic year, is on its way to make all the processes in the university paperless. It has issued a diktat that no hard copies can be sent to its affiliated colleges anymore, so all communication will be digital.
For any kind of communication, be it a circular or a notification, the university used to get an approval from its headquarters from Belagavi and then send it to regional offices and the colleges would receive it from the regional offices.
Recently, VTU has told all principals of its colleges that the e-communication process will begin and that the university hopes to gradually move towards a less paper and paperless office. Jagannath Reddy, registrar of VTU, told BM, “Initially, we used to post all notifications to colleges. This has to stop.” “Colleges have more work around this time, most of which need some approval from the regional office, and admission work will begin shortly. They can scan the documents or use emails to communicate,” he said.
Important communications too will come via mail to the colleges.University officials said, information can be uploaded on to the VTU website and principals can just take a look at the site daily. “By this, we can save energy, time and money and easily access information from anywhere and anytime,” Reddy said.
VTU has also informed the colleges that individual approval letters will be e-mailed to the principals and these shall be treated as the original copy.
